what we believe

In the UCC we like to say, “God is still speaking.” Or, in other words, our relationships with God are always unfolding and evolving. As a faith community, we believe we are all called to nurture and share the blessings we all have with others.

Through both prayer and action, we believe we are all called to be co-creators in the building up of a beloved community right here in our own little corner of the world.

Because all people are created in the image of the Sacred, we welcome all. Just as Jesus welcomed all people to his table, we do the same.

We take the Bible seriously, not literally. As a book of stories, letters, poems, and teachings, the Bible was compiled long ago by people just like us who, in all their fallibility, still found inspiration from a still-speaking God.

Because we believe God meets and speaks to us in many ways, we listen and look for God’s still-speaking voice not only in the Bible but also through science, history, poetry, stories, and human reason.

We do not claim to have all the answers. However, we do like exploring life’s big questions along with questions about God, Jesus, and what it is we are all called to be and do in this world. Here, doubt is considered to be an element of faith, not the opposite.

Above all else, we agree with an ancient writer of letters in the Bible when they wrote, “God is love.”
