shared ministry covenant

Shared ministry is a theological affirmation that the members and friends of Faith United Church of Christ are partners with God and with one another in the life and work of Jesus Christ. Shared ministry is a practical acknowledgement that the members and friends of Faith United Church of Christ, including the pastor, are partners with one another the planning programming, funding, and implementing of the services, ministries, and outreach of this local church.

Faith United Church of Christ adopted this covenant in 1977, significantly altering its course by creating a cooperative ministry. The covenant is supported by the church’s by-laws, which state that each member is expected to “offer time and abilities to support the program of the church by participating in Shared Ministry.”

The Shared Ministry covenant is not simply a way to get things done, nor is it simply a way of ministry: it is a way of life. It is not just signing up to bake the communion bread or to mow the lawn or to share the message in the monthly Shared Ministry worship service. It is knowing that when you raise your hand during the Joys and Concerns in worship, we will listen, we will care, we will hold you in our prayers.
